Following Dame Julie Moore’s retirement, David Loughton CBE has been announced as the new Chair of the West Midlands Cancer Alliance. David is the longest serving Chief Executive in the NHS, having been a CEO for 31 years – currently with the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust. He joined the board of the Cancer Alliance in December 2017.
The Alliance continues to focus on supporting a number of larger Trusts across the West Midlands region improve their performance of the 62-day referral through to diagnosis and treatment standard. With respect to its transformation programmes, a Transformation Oversight Group has been established to oversee the transformation work programmes which include Digitisation of Pathology services with the aim of improving opportunities for early diagnosis of cancer. Transformation monies are now being distributed via an accountability framework to each STP.
This transformation money will support the implementation of best practice pathways for Lung, Colorectal, Prostate and Upper GI in addition to the Living With and Beyond Cancer (LWBC) agenda where all Trusts are required to have a self (managed) care model for patients in place by March 2019.
