Funding awarded to Birmingham and Solihull to tackle physical inactivity
An innovative partnership involving organisations across Birmingham and Solihull has secured a £9.72m Sport England National Lottery grant to deliver an ambitious vision for active communities.
Led jointly by The Active Wellbeing Society (a community benefit society set up by Birmingham City Council in 2017) and Solihull Council, Active Communities is a three year pilot (ending March 2021) to tackle physical inactivity and inequalities.
The Active Communities team and local partners are working intensively with residents in six areas across Birmingham and Solihull, looking at what stops them being active and working out ways to deal with these barriers.
