NHS England (West Midlands) support for the development of Integrated Care Systems
It is almost two years since NHS organisations and local councils came together to form Sustainability and Transformation Partnerships (STPs) to improve the health and care of people living across England. In the West Midlands, NHS England together with NHS Improvement and the Local Government Association has been supporting four STPs to evolve and develop to form integrated care systems – a new type of even closer collaboration – by designing and implementing a unique programme of support.
Alison Tonge, Director of Commissioning Operations, for NHSE West Midlands and North Midlands has shared her thoughts and experiences of the intensive support programme.
In addition to the facilitated 12 week programme of intensive support, health and care leaders from both the NHS and local government have been given the opportunity during 2018 to come together at the Place Based Leadership for Health and Well Being Network to focus on the challenges and needs of health and care systems.
